Guide not working in a specific app? Try running as administrator

If Guide can't click or type in a particular program, running Guide as administrator usually fixes it.

A question mark representing a troubleshooting topic

If Guide works fine in most programs but struggles with a specific app, such as clicks not landing or keyboard input being ignored, it is most likely a Windows permissions issue.

Why this happens

Windows protects apps that run with elevated privileges from being controlled by other software. If the program you are trying to use is running as administrator and Guide is not, Windows will block Guide's clicks and keystrokes from reaching it.

Running Guide as administrator puts it at the same privilege level, which removes that block.

How to run Guide as administrator

  1. Close Guide if it is already open
  2. Find the Guide shortcut on your desktop or in the Start menu
  3. Right-click the shortcut and select Run as administrator
  4. Accept the User Account Control prompt if one appears
  5. Try your task again

Making it permanent

If you regularly use apps that require this, you can set Guide to always launch as administrator.

  1. Open File Explorer and navigate to the folder where Guide is installed, typically C:\Program Files\Guide
  2. Right-click Guide.exe and select Properties
  3. Open the Compatibility tab
  4. Check Run this program as an administrator
  5. Click Apply

Guide will now always start with administrator privileges.
